We went as a French family. Dylan chewed happily on his baguette for hours and the parents drank red wine. Imagine accordion music…
Rolling and scooting
Dylan has become much more mobile. He’s not crawling yet (he’s got quite a big tummy to get off the ground) but he can usually make his way over to what he wants. Today he scooted towards a piece of paper I kept trying to keep out of his reach. He likes chewing paper, which makes me worry about choking!
Jumbo
Dylan tipped the scale at ECFE class today to 20 pounds! He quite enjoys eating now and looks forward to “solid” foods three times a day. He can even stand eating foods with a bit of texture. Green beans, peach, and zucchini have been added to his menu.

Alex’s co-worker took some great pictures of Dylan:

Foods
Dylan has branched out from rice cereal and bananas and has started eating in earnest. He now eats 1-3 times a day, depending on our schedules. He flaps his arms up and down and opens his mouth and leans towards the spoon to show he wants more. He definitely has a preference for very smooth foods, so I am streaming, pureeing and then smooshing all the foods through a wire strainer by hand. I also buy some jars of baby foods, since they have a super smooth texture. Here is Dylan’s current menu of foods:
- applesauce
- winter squash
- sweet potato
- carrots
- pear
- oatmeal
For his next food I am envisioning whirled peas (hahahahaha). We haven’t given him any juice yet; just water. He drinks out of a shot glass which is both adorable and easy for me to control. At this point 1/3 to 1/2 still ends up on his clothes or the floor, but he’s getting better every time.

Words of Wisdom
It’s wonderful to rediscover Free To Be… You And Me! It’s so beautifully idealistic and hopeful and just exactly like you want your child to be. As one reviewer’s child noted “Listening to this record is like listening to my heart laughing.”
“Your mommy hates housework,
Your daddy hates housework,
I hate housework, too.
And when you grow up, so will you.”
“Parents are people, people with children.”
“A sissy is somebody who doesn’t cry because he’s afraid people will call him a sissy.”
“Ladies First” = getting eaten by tigers first
Sitting!
SORRY! I’ve heard from several people that the video link does not work, and I’m not sure how to fix it. But I’ll try again later…
What a difference a week makes!
Click on “DylanSits” above and the video will open in its own window. There will be a black background and it may take a minute to start playing. If it doesn’t work for you, let me know.
Notice the MPR on in the background. It’s pretty much our constant soundtrack – either the news, classical music or the “new music” station.
